One Appalachian State football player is going viral for the wrong kind of practice highlight.
A recent Mountaineers practice erupted into chaos when an anonymous player snatched his teammate’s helmet and walloped him with it.
The viral video footage, posted by a fan site, revealed the squad in an 11-on-11 play during a summer workout when a blocker, No. 73, engaged a pass rusher wearing No. 12.
The two got into a back-and-forth dispute, sparking No. 12’s outburst.
He proceeded to viciously rip his teammates’ facemask, causing the headgear to pop off, before clocking him in the head with it.

Appalachian State University did not reveal the attacker’s name to TMZ, but noted that “the player was being disciplined internally,” per the outlet.
“This behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated within the App State football program,” head coach Shawn Clark said told the outlet.
The incident sent social media into a frenzy, leaving multiple users jaw-dropped.
One user wrote on X, “Kick his stupid ass off the team immediately he could have killed the other guy.”
“This is really scary. I can’t imagine if this was my son being hit in the head by someone with this little emotional control. I hope they kicked his dumbass off the team,” another added.
A third wrote, “This is assault with a deadly weapon. Jeez.”
Many are also getting a sense of déjà vu, as Myles Garrett – a defensive end for the Browns – ripped off Steelers’ quarterback Mason Rudolph’s helmet and smashed his head with it in 2019.
The Mountaineers surely would prefer not to be handling such an incident coming off a prolific 2023 showing.
Appalachian State posted a 9-5 record and beat the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in the ninth annual Avocados From Mexico Cure Bowl, 13-9.
