Drew Barrymore sat Stanley Tucci down to reflect on some of his most iconic films on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

After dishing on his work in Maid in Manhattan and Julie & Julia, Tucci opened up about his time filming The Devil Wears Prada, which also starred Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. According to Tucci, he never thought the 2006 comedy would become the beloved staple its regarded as today.

“I never think that when I make a movie. Ever,” he said. “I think, ‘Well this could be good. Or it could be bad.’ You never know.”

The actor then revealed why Hathaway had a “really hard time” playing Andy Sachs.

“Annie had the hardest role because she’s playing a very reactive person,” he explained. “She carries the movie but she’s playing a reactive person, while we’re all doing things that are active. So she had a really hard time but I think she did it brilliantly.”

“And then you have Meryl giving that incredible performance,” Tucci continued. “Emily, who suddenly rose to prominence — and now is my sister-in-law, which is weird.”

Tucci told Barrymore that he met Blunt’s sister Felicity Blunt while filming the movie. They tied the knot in 2012 and share two children together.

As for what’s happening with The Devil Wears Prada’s highly anticipated sequel, Tucci said, “I can’t legally say anything. But my hope is that it is going to happen. That’s all I can say.”

Puck first reported that a sequel was in the works at Disney in July 2024. While no details have been confirmed, Entertainment Weekly reported that all four major stars — including Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci — were in talks to reprise their roles, along with OG director David Frankel, producer Wendy Finerman, and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
