NextImg:Angel Reese has cryptic post as Hailey Van Lith visits LSU

Angel Reese may or may not be excited about the potential arrival of fellow star women’s basketball player Hailey Van Lith on LSU’s campus.

Van Lith, who was the leading scorer at Louisville the last two seasons, which included a Final Four berth in 2022, entered the transfer portal last weekend, and visited LSU on Tuesday as she decides where she will land next.

Reese, presumably but not necessarily definitively reacted to this news, tweeting out a single face-with-peeking-eye emoji.

Led by ostentatious coach Kim Mulkey, Reese and LSU brashly played their way to their first national championship this season, defeating Iowa 102-85 in the title game.

In the closing moments of the game, Reese tracked down Iowa star Caitlin Clark and did the John Cena “You can’t see me” gesture, which Clark had done previously in the tournament.

For her part, Clark was unbothered.

“We’re all competitive. We all show our emotions in a different way,” Clark told ESPN in an interview.

“Angel’s a tremendous, tremendous player. I have nothing but respect for her. I love her game, the way she rebounds the ball, scores the ball is absolutely incredible. I’m a big fan of her. Even the whole LSU team, the way they played. I don’t think there should be any criticism for what she did.

“I honestly didn’t see it when the game was going on and like I said I haven’t been on social media at all.”

Another element of controversy that emerged from the national title game happened when first lady Dr. Jill Biden invited Iowa, the losing team, to come to the White House in addition to the champions LSU.

Initially, Reese called the invitation for Iowa “a joke” and declined to commit to attending LSU’s White House visit, but she ultimately said she will go along with her team.

“In the beginning we were hurt — it was emotional because we know how hard we worked all year for everything,” Reese said.

“You don’t get that experience [to go to the White House] ever, and I know my team probably wants to go for sure and my coaches are supportive of that so I’m going to do what’s best for the team and we’ve decided we’re going to go.

“I’m a team player.”

Whether or not she ultimately chooses LSU, Van Lith is also a brash player, and had a tense moment in the handshake line after Louisville defeated Texas in the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Sweet 16, exchanging words with Longhorns senior guard Sonya Morris.
