Jennifer Hudson‘s lips were sealed when Andy Cohen asked her why Mariah Carey didn’t do the iconic spirit tunnel during her recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Cohen, who switched seats with Carey during her Oct. 1 visit to the Bravo Clubhouse, assumed she wouldn’t do Hudson’s spirit tunnel because of “bad lighting.”

“I know why. It’s very clear,” he told Hudson on Monday night’s (Oct. 13) episode of Watch What Happens Live. “She hates bad lighting. She’s very open about it. That’s a fluorescent-lit [hallway].”

Hudson, however, fired back, “We have good lighting at The Jennifer Hudson Show! MC has control over all lighting, so that can’t be it.”

When Cohen questioned whether the hallway in which they film the spirit tunnel is well-lit, Laverne Cox chimed in, “It is. I did it. I’m Black and the lighting was sickening.” Plus, Hudson noted that Carey “brings her own light.”

“Yes, she does,” Cohen corroborated. “Listen, I switched seats for her last week. I know.”

So, what was the real reason she refused to take part in the viral trend?

“Mariah wouldn’t want me to say,” Hudson nervously answered. “She can do whatever she wants. I just want everybody to have a beautiful experience when they come to the happy place. So, if you choose to do it, you do it. If you don’t, you don’t. We just want to simply celebrate you.”

Cox, for her part, added, “Mariah has earned the right to do whatever she wants.”

Still, Cohen doubled down on his theory that it had to do with the lighting.

“I disagree, Andy. The lighting was sickening,” Cox said, to which Cohen replied, “I mean, it’s a hallway.”

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
