Andy Cohen is known for pushing the envelope. So it came as no surprise when he asked Jenna Bush Hager a rather daring question on Today With Jenna & Friends after she named Brandi Carlile as her “celebrity hall pass.”
Cohen was challenging Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones to a game of “Plead the Fifth” in which he asks the Today hosts a series of questions that they can choose to answer truthfully or plead the fifth to avoid answering at all. When the game began, Cohen lamented how safe the questions were, telling Jones and Bush Hager, “I wish I had written these.” But Cohen quickly went rogue and began asking the Today hosts whatever he wanted.
“You were on the record as having Brandi Carlile as your celebrity hall pass,” he read off the prepared questions he was handed, before adding, “You know what? I’m gonna change this. I’m changing this question because you all teed it up with the first half of this question.”
He then asked Bush Hager, “Have you ever swum in the lady pond?”
The question certainly caught the Today hosts off-guard. But Bush Hager readily responded.
“No. That’s why they said I’m not allowed to have her as my celebrity hall pass,” Bush Hager said.

She then told Cohen that journalist Kara Swisher once told her, “You’re not allowed on the island.”
“I was like, why not?” Bush Hager revealed.
As Cohen reacted in shock to Bush Hager’s willingness to answer his question, Bush Hager even turned to Jones to ask, “Did you ever swim?” which Jones denied.
Cohen then praised Bush Hager for not pleading the fifth to avoid the question.
“If she pled the fifth on that question then that’s the headline,” Jones pointed out.
“Well I know! Then of course I swam it, I did freestyle,” Bush Hager joked.
That headline would certainly catch peoples’ attention – even Bush Hager’s mother, former First Lady Laura Bush.
“Oh my gosh. I don’t want to give former First Lady Laura bush a heart attack by asking you that question,” Cohen joked.
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
