Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate appeared at prosecutors’ offices on Monday with his brother as more searches played out in his sex-trafficking investigation.
The self-proclaimed misogynist, currently on house arrest in Romania on suspicion of organized crime and human trafficking, was released from a Bucharest jail late last month.
The 36-year-old ex-kickboxer had been locked up with his brother Tristan and two Romanian women since December. None of the four have been formally indicted.
Both Tate brothers were spotted at the Bucharest offices of Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, on Monday as forensic searches were carried out, according to their lawyer Eugen Vidineac.
Their visit to DIICOT comes after they were awarded their fourth appeal late last month that challenged a judge’s decision to extend their arrest for a fourth time for 30 days. They will remain under house arrest until at least April 29.
Prosecutors have already carried out several device searches since they were detained in December.
When met by reporters outside the DIICOT offices, supporters chanted “Top-G, Top-G” — a nickname used by Andrew Tate’s fans meaning “top gangster.”
Their attorney told the Associated Press that prosecutors took “a lot of devices” but are “still looking for the information, even now.”
Andrew Tate, a British-US citizen who has lived in Romania since 2017, and Tristan are accused of running an organized crime gang that seduced and tricked women into sex trafficking, with some victims accusing the duo of rape.
At least six victims have come forward alleging “acts of physical violence and mental coercion” and sexual exploitation.
The two Romanian women involved, Naghel Georgiana Manuela and Radu Alexandra Luana, have also been arrested in connection to the alleged crimes.
Andrew Tate has repeatedly claimed Romanian prosecutors have no evidence and alleged their case is a political conspiracy designed to silence him. Since his release from police detention, he has gained at least 500,000 followers on Twitter.
A tweet that appeared on the social media personality’s account on Sunday read: “The world makes alot more sense once you understand that most people dont even want to be free.”
Andrew Tate was previously banned from various social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and hate speech.
