Pitcher Andrew Heaney may have revealed what has taken the Texas Rangers “Higher” than they’ve gone in seven years.
The Rangers are one win away from punching their ticket to the American League Championship Series and the secret may be the music of a late 90s rock band.
In a conversation with Rangers broadcaster Jared Sandler, Heaney said the team had started playing songs by the band Creed as they were going through the ups and downs of the second half of the season.
And now Heaney is hoping when the Rangers return to Globe Life Field for Game 3 on Tuesday that fans will start belting out some of Creeds’ greatest hits.
“Andrew Heaney just shared that as the team was going through the rollercoaster of the second half, they started having fun and playing Creed before games,” Sandler wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He said that if Creed was played at GLF on Tuesday or Wednesday and fans started belting out the song, it would fire them up!”
After Heaney’s comments made it to social media, Creed seemed to take notice and proclaimed that they were pulling for the Rangers in a post of their own on X.
The publicity comes at an ideal time for the band that hit its heights in 1999 with Creed’s second album “Human Clay.”
Creed is planning to play its first shows in 12 years when band members Scott Stapp, Brian Marshall, Mark Tremonti and Scott Phillips reunite to perform on the “Summer of ’99 cruise” in April 2024.
Rangers are expected to be greeted “With Arms Wide Open” when they return home on Tuesday with a 2-0 series lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS.
This season marked the Rangers’ first postseason berth since 2016 and a trip to the ALCS would be the furthest the ballclub has gone since back-to-back trips to the World Series in 2010 and 2011.
If things continue to go the Rangers’ way, a trip to Globe Life Field might need to be in order for Creed.
