NextImg:Andrew Garfield reveals he and Florence Pugh "went a little bit further" than they intended to while filming a "passionate" sex scene: "We never heard 'cut'"

We Live In Time stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh seemingly got caught up in the moment while shooting one of the upcoming film’s sex scenes.

The Hacksaw Ridge star sat down with Josh Horowitz at New York’s 92nd Street Y for a taping of his Happy Sad Confused podcast on Friday (Oct. 4), where he shed light on he and Pugh’s “first take” of a “very intimate, passionate” sex scene, per a video shared online (via Deadline).

“And it’s a closed set, which means it’s only me and Florence in a room together and the camera operator, who is our DP, a very lovely man called Stuart,” he noted, later adding that their “boom operator” was also present and “the director was in another room next door.”

Garfield recalled that “the scene becomes passionate, as [they] choreographed it.”

“And we get into it as it were, and we go a little bit further than we were meant to because we never heard ‘cut’ and it’s feeling safe,” he explained. “And we’re just kinda like, ‘Ok, we’ll just go into the next thing, we’ll let this progress, and we’ll just carry on.'”

Garfield teased that he and Pugh eventually “were telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a longer take.'” He then proceeded to stand up and act out what took place next.

“I look up, and in the corner is Stuart and our boom operator,” he continued. “Stuart has the camera by his side and he’s turned into the wall.”

Per A24’s website, We Live In Time follows Pugh’s Almut and Garfield’s Tobias, who “are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives.”

“As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley‘s decade-spanning, deeply moving romance,” the description continues.

In a recent interview with Esquire where he was asked to describe Pugh as a scene partner, Garfield praised her as “so supremely talented.”

“I love Florence, as a human and as an actor,” he highlighted, in part.

We Live In Time‘s hits theaters for a limited release on Friday, Oct. 11.
