It’s not often that Sara Haines — the table’s resident moderate — is involved in tense moments on The View. But on this morning’s episode of the hit daytime talk show, Ana Navarro bluntly put the co-host in her place during a heated conversation about reproductive rights.

It was the first Hot Topics segment of the day, and the ladies were discussing a judge’s decision to exempt a 31-year-old Texas woman from the state’s abortion ban after she was told her fetus would not survive, she might not survive and having the baby could prevent her from ever having another child.

While it was a small victory for pro-choice advocates, Navarro found it “outrageous” that the woman, Kate Cox, had to go to court for the exemption in the first place.

“It is absolutely outrageous, offensive, ridiculous, unacceptable that a woman has to be going through the grief of losing her child — this woman wants this pregnancy. This woman’s baby has a chromosomal disorder that the child will die,” she said. “And in the midst of having to make the decision, she’s got to go to the court to argue for the right to have an abortion.”

Navarro added, “We’re in 2023. This is not Gilead. This is America … This is not pro-life. It’s pro-cruelty and pro-inhumanity.”

Later on in the conversation, she pointed out that there are Republicans in Congress who want to pass a federal abortion ban. When Haines chimed in to say, “They don’t have the votes,” Navarro quickly fired back, “That’s what we used to say.”

Haines then echoed her previous statement, insisting that there aren’t enough votes that would allow for a federal abortion ban to pass in Congress, prompting Navarro to deliver her a reality check.

“No, Sara. Wait, wait, wait a minute,” Navarro said. “That’s what we said for 50 years. We said they’re never going to overturn Roe v. Wade. And you know what? When they got the chance, they did. So when they tell you what they’re gonna do, believe them.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
