Every Monday on The View as of late has been centered around some sort of history-making Hot Topic. This morning was no different, with the co-hosts weighing in on President Joe Biden‘s shocking decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race after facing weeks of criticism.

Ana Navarro, though a registered Republican, has been an outspoken supporter and friend of Biden’s. At the start of this morning’s episode of The View, she expressed her sadness for the former Democratic nominee.

“As I have said here many times, I love Joe Biden. I’m full of gratitude to Joe Biden today,” she said. “So, Joe Biden, thank you for everything — over 54 years of career.”

Navarro compared Biden’s decision to quit the race to a “champion athlete” retiring, leaving “it all on the field” and walking “away into the sunset.”

“That made me sad. It gave me nostalgia,” she said, before adding, “I was also mad because he’s been dragged relentlessly for three weeks by some people who supposedly were his friends. I hope that a lot of those donors that went out and said all sorts of things about him come back with a big check now.”

The co-host directly called out actor George Clooney, who recently penned a New York Times op-ed calling for the POTUS to step down, before continuing to praise Biden’s “stable and steady” administration.

“I am grateful to his staff. I am grateful to Jill Biden,” she said. “They’ve taken a lot of incoming in the last three weeks — a lot of attacks. They have been part of a very stable and steady administration. I will always be thankful.”

She continued, “They took us out of the hell that was COVID and they took us out of the hell that was [Donald] Trump. For that, [I’m] grateful until the end of my days.”

Sara Haines, on the other hand, said high-profile Democrats like Clooney were “allowed to speak up for their constituents.”

“There is room for criticism when you’re talking about the biggest job in the world,” she said, adding, “I commend the people that took that risk and said we need to do this because I do think that began some very hard conversations.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
