Ryan Gosling isn’t the only A-list celeb starring in Shawn Levy‘s new Star Wars entry.

Lucasfilm announced Amy Adams, Flynn Gray and Aaron Pierre will be joining Gosling in what is turning out to be a star-studded standalone entry to the franchise, which will also star Simon Bird, Jamael Westman and Daniel Ings. Mia Goth and Matt Smith were already announced as part of the cast.

According to a first-look image released by Lucasfilm to mark the official start of production, Gray appears to be taking a lead role in the film alongside Gosling.

Details about the new film are largely being kept under wraps, but The Hollywood Reporter previously reported the new film will star Gosling as a character protecting ” a young charge against evil pursuers,” one of whom will be played by Goth. Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison was originally circling the role but ultimately walked away from the deal.

THR also reports that Adams may be playing Gray’s mother in the film. Adams previously worked with Levy on the memorable sci-fi drama Arrival, which he produced.

Pierre is also no stranger to sci-fi as the rising star will soon appear in DC’s new series Lanterns.

Lucasfilm teased that Star Wars: Starfighter will be “an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored.” THR notes the new film will take place approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will be completely unrelated to established characters such as Luke and Anakin Skywalker.

“I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter,” Levy said in a statement. “From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”

Star Wars: Starfighter was written by author and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. Levy previously directed the 2014 star-studded film adaptation of Tropper’s comedic novel This Is Where I Leave You. They also worked together on the Ryan Reynolds-led The Adam Project .

Gosling will executive produce the film alongside Mary McLaglen and Josh McLaglen.

Star Wars: Starfighter is currently slated to premiere May 28, 2027.
