Alyssa Farah Griffin managed to upset the studio audience on this morning’s episode of The View after she ripped into women without children who choose not to work.
The conversation came up during a Hot Topics segment about a woman who wanted a “traditional relationship.” By that, she meant she wanted to be a housewife without children — something Griffin wasn’t able to support.
“She’s gonna need to be a trophy wife. A stay-at-home-mom, that is a job — taking care of kids,” she pointed out. “Being home with no children, no work — you better be super fit because that’s all you’re bringing to the table. You’re not helping contribute to the rent or the mortgage or anything.”
When a few audience members were heard groaning from the background, Griffin replied, “I’m sorry, that was shady?” before Joy Behar joked that they were “turning” on her.
The former White House staffer attempted to clarify her stance later on in the segment — however, she ended up upsetting her fellow co-host instead. After Griffin said wants to be like 80-year-old Behar and “work forever,” the comedian snapped at her.
“What makes you think I want to work forever? What are you, nuts?” Behar asked.

Meanwhile, Griffin added that you can’t be “a whole person” if you’re just “sitting home waiting for the breadwinner.” She even suggested joining a “charity” or getting involved with “something in your community” as alternate options to working.
Before the segment came to an end, the newbie co-host made one last attempt at redemption, and fortunately for her, the audience was receptive.
“Women always need to have their own money. That’s what I don’t like about this,” she said as the crowd erupted into cheers. “If you’re sitting home, he’s earning the money, you’re not taking care of the kids — if anything goes wrong or he mistreats you, you don’t have independence from him. That’s basically, I think, what bothers me about it.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
