Sunny Hostin came after Alyssa Farah Griffin on this morning’s episode of The View after the conservative co-host proclaimed she would “write in” a candidate instead of voting for Donald Trump or Joe Biden in 2024.
After an exasperated Joy Behar asked why Americans are still supporting Trump through his many scandals, Griffin attempted to offer an explanation.
“Our primary system is very flawed,” she said.”Seven in 10 Americans don’t want Joe Biden again and six in 10 don’t want Donald Trump. Why are we doing the rematch from hell that nobody wants?”
Griffin, a Republican who once worked in the Trump White House, clarified moments later that while she “could absolutely never support Donald Trump again,” she won’t be backing his likely 2024 opponent.
“I also probably won’t support Joe Biden. I’ll write someone in,” Griffin said, but she was immediately interrogated by Behar, who asked, “Why? Why not?”
Griffin said the current president doesn’t “reflect” her beliefs on “national security,” “life issues” or “the economy.” She also disagreed with how Biden handled the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
After Ana Navarro — the other Republican on The View panel — said she’d be casting a vote for Biden over “evil, crazy and unstable” Trump, Griffin attempted to explain herself, claiming she would have a different voting tactic if she lived in “a swing district where my vote could be the difference between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.”
“I’m voting in Manhattan. I am going to write in someone,” she said, but as she listed off potential candidates to add to her own ballot, her co-hosts cut in, with Hostin asking, “You don’t think your vote counts?” and Behar bluntly wondering, “Why bother voting?”

Griffin replied, “I’m going to write in who I want. I’m not going to be boxed in to what I think is a failing, two-party system where we’re not putting up our best candidates.”
Hostin shot back, “So you just throw away your presidential vote,” but Griffin was adamant she was not “throwing away her vote” and was still “casting her vote” by writing in an alternative candidate. Still, Hostin noted, “I would never throw away my presidential vote when my people fought so hard for the right to do it.”
Griffin replied, “I would never not vote.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
