The Saints will be without running back Alvin Kamara for the first three weeks of the season.
The NFL announced Kamara’s three-game suspension on Friday, wrapping up a case from early 2022 when the running back was arrested for assault in Las Vegas while he was in town for the Pro Bowl.
“I was completely wrong,” Kamara told reporters.
Kamara pled no contest last month to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace, avoiding felony battery charges, stemming from an incident in which the running back and several associates allegedly pushed down and kicked a man in an altercation outside an elevator at the Cromwell Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
In the terms of the plea agreement, Kamara is required to complete 30 hours of community service and pay $105,000 for medical expenses for the victim.
Kamara will miss games against the Titans, Panthers and Packers.
Kamara, 27, combined for nearly 1,400 rushing and receiving yards last season and had four total touchdowns.
The Saints signed veteran running back Jamaal Williams earlier this offseason and also selected running back Kendre Miller in the third round of the NFL Draft.
Chris Lammons, a cornerback on the Colts, will also receive a three-game suspension stemming from the incident.
