Disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to 27 years in prison for a host of white collar crimes including embezzlement, forgery, tax evasion and more on Tuesday.

Murdaugh — already a convicted double murderer — pleading guilty to several charges as part of a plea deal at Beaufort County Courthouse in South Carolina.

He was given the harshest crime sentence ever issued by the state for white collar crimes, according to The State. The 101 total chargews filed against Murdaugh stem from him stealing millions of dollars from his law clients, friends and family.

After hearing victim’s impact statements, the judge signed off on the sentence, which had been agreed in a plea deal earlier this month in which Murdaugh pleaded guilty to 22 of the charges, with the expectation he would be sentenced to 27 years.

As part of the plea deal, Murdaugh agreed to waive his appellate rights. He would also be eligible for parole after serving 85% of his sentence.

At the sentencing State Attorney Creighton Waters estimated Murdaugh stole more than $12.4 million over a decade. Murdaugh was only charged with $8 million in embezzlements and other charges, according to The State.

Waters went through various victims’ stories, including Jordan Jinks, who lost around $150,000 through Murdaugh’s schemes. Jinks appeared slumped over in his seat with his head in his hands in the courtroom, according to The State.

Fourteen of his victims are expected to be in court Tuesday.

Tony Satterfield, whose late mother Gloria was the Murdaughs’ housekeeper, directly addressed Murdaugh in court Tuesday, telling him he forgives his lying and stealing.

“My heart is with you and my prayers are with you,” he told the disgraced lawyer, whose lawyers admitted during his trial for killing his wife and son that he was addicted to drugs and spent up to $50,000 a week on opiods.

Despite Satterfield’s forgiving tone, the family’s attorney, Eric Bland, was not as kind, telling Murdaugh he feels “good that [Murdaugh] will never breath a fresh breath of air again.”

Gloria’s sister also asked Murdaugh: “Do you not have a soul?”

Murdaugh apologized to his victims, telling them he did “terrible things,” but he stilled “cares for each of you.”

“I’m so sorry,” he said.

The double murderer – who a jury ruled had shot and killed wife Maggie and son Paul in 2021– appeared stone-faced throughout the proceedings, only putting on reading glasses to look at documents from time to time.

Waters accused Murdaugh of using his “trust, power, and influence” to accomplish his schemes, including lying to grieving mother about securing a $30,000 settlement, when he actually received $183,000, and pocketing the rest.

“That’s the only way these schemes were able to take place,” Waters told the court.

Earlier this year, the father-of-two was sentenced to two life sentences for murdering his loved ones.

Murdaugh maintains his innocence and said at his sentencing hearing that he “would never hurt my wife Maggie and I would never hurt my son Paw Paw.” His lawyers are currently attempting to persuade the state to give him a re-trial.

Murdaugh has one surviving son, Buster, 26, who appeared emotionless throughout his father’s various proceedings. Buster was not in court today, but his father addressed him when allowed to speak by the court.

“Buster, I am so sorry that I let you down. I am so sorry that I have not been able to be with you during such hard times,” he told his son, who was not in court today.

He told Buster that his “whole family is proud of you,” including Maggie, “Paw Paw,” and himself.
