NextImg:Alabama’s Elijah Pritchett charged after arrest for allegedly knowingly passing on STD

A University of Alabama football player was arrested on Wednesday for knowingly spreading a sexually transmitted disease.

Offensive tackle Elijah Pritchett was charged with a Class C misdemeanor, according to AL.com, and is facing fines and up to three months in jail.

Pritchett was released on a $500 bond.

The redshirt freshman was granted youthful offender status, which is eligible for anyone who is 18 to 21 years old, according to the report.

The designation allows Pritchett the ability to plead down to a lighter sentence, waives a jury trial and there will be no criminal conviction.

Records of the case will also be sealed to the public.

The news comes as Alabama prepares to face the University of Michigan in the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1.

The University has not made any public statement about Pritchett’s arrest and Alabama head coach Nick Saban isn’t scheduled for any media obligations until he gets to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.

While Pritchett has had a relatively uneventful time at Alabama, he did get himself into trouble earlier in the year after he had been pulled over for going 95 in a 65-mph zone following the Crimson Tide’s first spring scrimmage.

Pritchett told the officer who pulled him over that he wasn’t aware how fast he was going, according to AL.com.

He later pleaded guilty and was ordered to do 10 hours of community service, complete a four-hour defensive driving course and pay $197 in court fees.

Pritchett completed the requirements and the case was dismissed by a judge on Sept. 5.

On the field, Pritchett appeared in all 13 games this season for Alabama, serving in a reserve and special teams role.

He helped on special teams during the Crimson Tide’s SEC Championship win over Georgia earlier this month.

The offensive tackle is the third Alabama football player to be arrested this year.
