Tuesday morning’s episode of The Today Show certainly showered meteorologist Al Roker with discomfort.
Roker, alongside fellow Third Hour co-hosts Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones, introduced Shop TODAY’s editorial director Adrianna Brach to “come clean” about how often experts recommend you clean your dishwasher, plus and how often you should shower, on a new special called “How Often Should You?”
She posed a multiple choice question surrounding the latter, with answers ranging from “every day” to “once.”
“I don’t care what they say,” Roker began, and opted for “A,” or showering everyday.
Brach then revealed that dermatologists recommend that people shower only two to three times per week, eventually citing skin health as likely the primary reason for this statistic.
Jones was stunned by the statistic as well, exclaiming, “there are seven days in the week!”
“It does depend on the person,” she continued. “I’m looking at Al’s face, like, ‘What is this?'”
As the camera highlighted Roker’s hilarious expression, Brach burst into laughter. She began to explain that “it depends on the person, your lifestyle, your skin type…,” when Roker interjected. “Lifestyle?!” he questioned.
Although Brach then told him that “at the end of the day, it’s all personal preference,” Roker still wouldn’t have it. “Not if you come in contact with other people!” he exclaimed.
Jones ultimately got on board with the dermatologists’ consensus, understanding that this is “for the sake of our skin,” while Roker wasn’t so easily swayed, insisting, “I shower twice a day.”
And honestly, he’s in good company! Dwayne Johnson seems to take Roker’s approach, deeming himself “the opposite of a ‘not washing themselves’ celeb” in an August 2021 Twitter debate.
Others like Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have expressed different opinions, telling Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast in 2021 that they only bathed their children “when you can see dirt on them,” and that “otherwise, there’s no point.”
The Today Show airs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET on NBC. You can watch the clip from Tuesday’s episode above.
