Mayor Adams admitted that New York City had a lot to learn from Israel’s high-tech security drones as the NYPD explores using the high-flying tech to respond to 911 calls.
“They are a little bit more advanced,” Hizzoner told reporters during a briefing from Tel Aviv on Wednesday.
“It is the method in which they’re using them, the methods in which they are training to use them, is what caught my interest, he added.
Adams highlighted that the Israeli drones are more durable than the city’s current devices and have the ability to fly for much longer.
He also noted the coordinated use of drones with police motorcycles by Israeli police could be a tactic brought home to help response times for accidents or other emergencies during Big Apple gridlock.
“You all know that I’m a great fan of technology and all it can do to make our lives easier and safer,” the mayor said. “And Israel is on the cutting edge of exciting developments in technology that will benefit all of us.”
While the mayor didn’t provide an in-depth accounting of tech presented during his third day overseas, citing a brief window to speak to the press, the Post exclusively revealed just weeks ago early plans by the NYPD to use drones to respond to 911 calls and gauge proper police response.
Last October, officials in the central Israeli city of Modi’in-Maccabim-Reut started deploying drones as first responders in traffic accidents, according to reports.

“One thing is clear that my New York City police department, we will not use any tool that is not in alignment with the laws of our city, in our state and in our country.”
Adams also said he saw some successful strategies in dealing with large crowds but noted “some of the methods” the city wouldn’t employ.
“As we look at when we had a similar incident in our city, how do we do it in the correct way they’ve learned how to do it correctly,” Hizzoner added.
The mayor is slated to return to New York on Thursday.
