Mayor Eric Adams is absolutely right to (finally) blast President Joe Biden for ignoring the illegal-migrant disaster.

Too bad Hizzoner’s new suggestions are badly off-target — and may even do more harm than good.

“The national government has turned its back on New York City,” Adams thundered Wednesday. “The president and the White House have failed New York City.”

The mayor is understandably terrified of the expected explosion of migrants when Biden stops using Title 42 to reject them in three weeks.

Adams’ past pleas for federal funding to support the city’s care of the “guests,” and for some “decompression” pause in waving the migrants through have fallen on deaf ears in Washington.

The leaves New York’s citizens with a whopping $2.9 billion migrant price tag next year — on top of $1.4 billion this year, Adams says.

“Every service in this city is going to be impacted.” Yikes!

But his latest ask is lame: He’s calling on Biden to let more migrants legally seek work here by expanding the federal Temporary Protected Status and Humanitarian Parole programs.

Even if Biden agrees, this won’t address the root problem: Biden’s open-borders policies. Instead, they’re likely to lead to new woes.

For starters, Biden lacks legal authority to expand either program without Congress’ OK, as Adams proposes.

Even if Congress or the courts (eventually) allows it, what does Adams think will happen to the labor market when tens of thousands of newcomers start looking for jobs, particularly entry-level ones?

New York’s high $15 minimum wage (which Albany’s progressives are poised to raise even higher) already discourages employers from hiring inexperienced workers who don’t add enough value to cover the cost.

And letting more illegal migrants work will make it even harder for legal citizens to find work.

If the mayor truly wants to end the nightmare, he should be demanding Biden shut the border — i.e., enforcing laws that enable agents to turn back or deport illegal migrants, restoring policies like “Remain in Mexico” and providing sufficient resources to stop the inflow.

It’s not OK to let folks in and simply have someone else pay the cost.

Or to have millions cut the immigration line and take citizens’ jobs.

Biden and Adams need to face facts: America simply can’t afford to host everyone who wants to live here.

The only realistic fix is to truly secure the border and end the chaos, once and for all.
