With the 2023 NFL Draft less than a week away, an Aaron Rodgers trade could finally be on the horizon.
The Jets and Packers “recently re-engaged” trade discussions on Rodgers after weeks without talking, NFL Network reported Sunday, more than a month after the longtime Green Bay quarterback stated on “The Pat McAfee Show” that his intention is to play for the Jets this year.

While a trade isn’t “imminent,” per the report, there’s hope a deal can be struck this week.
The three-day NFL Draft begins Thursday night with the first round, and there has long been thought that the draft could be what leads to a trade being finalized, as the Packers likely would want pick compensation from the Jets for this year’s draft.
The Post’s Brian Costello reported Thursday that the sticking point in negotiations between the Jets and Packers has been Green Bay’s demand for the Jets’ 2024 first-round pick to be in the deal.
The Jets don’t want to include an unconditional first-round pick for a quarterback in Rodgers, who turns 40 in December and whose status beyond the 2023 season is uncertain, and they’d prefer to have a conditional day-two pick that can become a first-rounder if certain conditions are met, according to Costello.

It’s not clear what conditions the Jets are looking to have attached to the pick.
The Jets own back-to-back picks in the second round at Nos. 42 and 43, selections that will be made Friday night.

So if the Packers want one of those picks, that ostensibly would be when a deal between the two teams would have to be made.
On April 7 at a WFAN event in Jersey City, Jets general manager Joe Douglas said Rodgers is “gonna be here” when asked by Boomer Esiason when Rodgers was coming.
