Aaron Rodgers will be back.
That’s the headline from his first live interview since suffering a torn Achilles tendon on Monday.
The Jets quarterback dared his naysayers, saying “anything is possible” when asked about returning this season.
Those comments came just two days after Rodgers underwent surgery, which at the time was believed to be season-ending.
But the 39-year-old Rodgers touched on some other topics during his conversation Friday with Pat McAfee.
The former ESPN anchor was busy on social media after Rodgers went down Monday night, sarcastically linking the injury to the quarterback’s anti-vaccine stance.
“Another #SuddenLisfranc due to failure to vaccinate,” Olbermann posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside six needle emojis.
To that, Rodgers said, “Get your fifth booster, Keith.”
He later yelled out that Olbermann was “a bum.”
Olbermann’s post was a reference to how Rodgers found himself in the middle of a vaccine controversy in 2021 when he said he was “immunized” but then tested positive for COVID-19 and then admitted he was not vaccinated against the virus.
Rodgers said he was allergic to some of the ingredients in the COVID vaccine and chose to have an alternative holistic treatment instead.
Rodgers also said that he was not an “anti-vaxxer” but wanted to “make the best choice for my body.”
Rodgers said he is “feeling better” but admitted he was “pretty emotional” on Monday and that he contemplated his future at the time.
Rodgers said he can’t put any weight on his foot right now and he needs crutches to move around.
Zach Wilson will take over as the Jets’ starting quarterback with Rodgers shelved.
Rodgers said he has full faith in his backup.
“I’m very confident in Zach,” Rodgers said. “I was hoping he could have a couple of years to sit back. … I’m excited for him.”
Rodgers said he is “looking forward to getting back there once I can travel. Gotta get ambulatory and make sure I’m safe.”
He also said he “won’t be on the sidelines for a while,” but indicated he’s open to being on a headset from whatever box he’s watching game
Multiple sources reported Rodgers was unhappy with the play call on which he was hurt because it calls for cut blocks from offensive linemen and a quick release of the ball.
But Rodgers didn’t take the bait.
“I don’t know what story you’re talking about,” Rodgers said. “I like cutting.”
