NextImg:Aaron Rodgers on ‘road to recovery’ after Achilles injury surgery

Aaron Rodgers took the first step in healing his torn left Achilles tendon.

The 39-year-old Jets quarterback confirmed in an Instagram story on Thursday that he underwent surgery on Wednesday and said things went well.

“Surgery went great yesterday,” Rodgers wrote in his post. “Thank you for all the love and prayers and support. And thanks to the [GOAT] Dr ElAttrache and his staff for starting me on the road to recovery.”

Dr. Neal ElAttrache is a Los Angeles-based orthopedic surgeon, who is well-regarded for his work for injured athletes.

He’s worked with high-profile athletes across the sporting world, including performing surgery on Tom Brady after the quarterback tore his left ACL and MCL in the opening game of the 2008 season.

Rodgers, like Brady, got hurt in the Jets’ season opener on “Monday Night Football” against the Bills, tearing his Achilles on his fourth snap with Gang Green.

Aaron Rodgers posted about his surgery.

On Wednesday, Rodgers posted about the injury publicly for the first time and vowed to “rise again.”

“Thank you to every person that has reached out, called, texted, DM’d, connected through a friend, etc. It has meant a ton to me, and I’ll try and get back to all of you soon,” Rodgers wrote on his Instagram page. “I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today.

“The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again.”

Rodgers subsequently got well wishes from plenty of teammates, athletes and luminaries.

While he has not definitively said he will return to the field, Rodgers hinted at in in his Wednesday post, and head coach Robert Saleh added that he would be surprised if the quarterback retired without trying to come back.

“I haven’t gone down that road with him, but I’d be shocked if this is the way he’s gonna go out,” Saleh said before practice Wednesday in Florham Park.
