Aaron Rodgers is no longer being vague about when his goal to return to the Jets is after tearing his Achilles tendon in the team’s opening game.
After saying last week he hoped to be back in a “few fortnights,” Rodgers got a little more specific with NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark Sunday night.
Stark reported that Rodgers told her his goal is to “come back mid-December” in a conversation before the Jets faced the Raiders in Las Vegas.
“He said, ‘I know it sounds insane, but you do a good surgery and you have a good patient it makes this possible,'” Starks said.
There had been rumors in late October that Rodgers was eyeing December and it now seems that was true.
That would be an incredible three-month recovery, but there are still physical hurdles the four-time MVP needs to clear.
“He told me he has been working on a weight-limiting treadmill, jogging at 50 percent of his body weight,” Stark reported. “His goal this week, to increase to 75 percent. He said he can drop back and he can cross over. He just has to be able to get up on his toe. He has to get his heel off the ground to start running.”
The Jets are set to play the Dolphins in Miami on Dec. 17 before a Christmas Eve home game against the Commanders.
The 39-year-old Rodgers, who is now helping on the Jets’ sideline with quarterback Zach Wilson, has already made miraculous progress walking naturally without crutches.

He has also been dropping back and throwing passes in warmups during Jets’ home games.
The hope is the Jets, who entered Sunday’s clash with the Raiders at 4-4, give Rodgers a reason to push for a return as they remain in the playoff race but on the outside looking in at the moment.
