NextImg:Aaron Rodgers gets flurry of jokes when lights go out at Jets-Browns Hall of Fame Game

The darkness retreat never really leaves its participants, apparently.

As the Jets and the Browns geared up for the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, the lights on one side of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium went out — leaving the Jets and Aaron Rodgers in partial darkness.

During the delay that lasted a little more than 15 minutes, the NBC cameras caught the 39-year-old Jets quarterback on the sidelines, fittingly in the dark.

This offseason in February, Rodgers made plenty of headlines when he took a darkness retreat at Sky Cave Retreats in southern Oregon to help him decide on his NFL future as his time with the Packers was — at best — murky before he ended up getting traded to the Jets.

“I really wanted to contemplate some things with some relationships in my life, some family stuff, and then, obviously, career stuff, and just kind of let whatever was going to come in, come in. And it did, it definitely did,” Rodgers said on the “Aubrey Marcus Podcast” in March.

Well, this time, Rodgers didn’t have to go far, and the rest of his team got to experience a dark space.

As Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Browns coach Kevin Stefanski met at midfield to get a sense of when the game might restart, Rodgers faced plenty of jokes on social media.

The Browns’ Twitter account quipped: “this darkness retreat thing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”

“You didn’t eat any psychedelics lol,” replied one user who was referencing Rodgers’ use and praise of the psychedelic drug ayahuasca.

“Rodgers has cut the lights on the field. He’s taking a short darkness retreat to contemplate his season,” joked another.

Whether Rodgers wanted the lights on or off didn’t affect him on the field — because he did not suit up in the preseason opener.

Zach Wilson started in his place, completing three passes, including a 57-yard dime.
