HERTFORDSHIRE, England — The Jets signed linebacker Jamien Sherwood to a three-year, $45 million contract in March. His teammates elected him one of their captains in August.

But Sherwood has struggled during the 2025 season and is part of the reason why the Jets defense has played so poorly through five games.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn said Sherwood has played well but did acknowledge that he might be pressing.

“Sometimes when you have that ‘C’ on your chest, sometimes when you get that big contract, sometimes you feel like you need to do more,” Glenn said. “But it’s easy to get him dialed back. Just take care of your job along with making sure you get everything coordinated as far as the defense is concerned. I think that’s just normal for most guys.

“I like where he’s at. Obviously, he can do some things better along with a lot of us. I think you’re going to see a guy that’s going to continue to improve because of where his mindset is right now.”

Sherwood said he does not feel any pressure because of the contract or captaincy but did say he wants to live up to the expectations those things brought.

“I wouldn’t necessarily call it pressure,” Sherwood said. “But obviously you know I want to live up to expectations because I did earn it. I know what type of player I am. Obviously, I want to play up to those expectations. I don’t feel like I need to do more because I trust the men around me to do their job as well. It’s about me doing my job consistently.”

It sounds like the Jets will get edge rusher Jermaine Johnson back this week. Johnson has missed the last three games with an ankle injury.

He did not practice on Wednesday, but it sounds like the plan is for him to practice Thursday. Glenn said Thursday will be a big step for him, but there is optimism that he will play against the Broncos.

“I think there’s a really good chance that he’ll be out there [Sunday],” Glenn said.
