CINCINNATI – Aaron Boone was ejected for the 29th time in his career Sunday, but this marked the first one to come before noon.

The Yankees manager was tossed in the bottom of the first inning after a replay review went in the Reds’ favor, deeming that right fielder Jake Bauers had botched a fly ball in fair territory instead of foul.

Boone was not arguing that part, but instead that the umpires allowed Jonathan India to score from first base on the play.

In real-time, first-base umpire Nestor Ceja had signaled that it was a foul ball, so Bauers did not have any reason to quickly get to his feet after the sliding attempt and try to throw home to get India.

Still, upon crew chief Brian O’Nora announcing that the Reds’ challenge was successful and that Spencer Steer’s fly ball was actually fair for a double, he added that India would be awarded home plate.

India was rounding second base when the ball was called foul.

Boone quickly jumped out of the dugout to argue, but O’Nora was quick to give him the hook – likely because managers arguing replay review decisions are supposed to be met by an automatic ejection.

Aaron Boone has been ejected 29 times since becoming manager of the Yankees prior to the 2018 season.

The ejection was Boone’s third of the season and second of this seven-game road trip that ended on Sunday.
