Midtown is getting its groove back.
Following a winter hiatus, Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace is returning to the iconic Lower Plaza in front of 30 Rock this Friday, April 14.
This will be the pop-up venue’s second year in the 34,000-square-foot space, which is better known for hosting the winter ice rink that has operated there since 1936.
Before Flipper’s, the last time the plaza was used for wheels instead of blades was in 1940, before both the birth of disco and the first Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, a beloved — if brief — Los Angeles haunt.
The original space, founded by Ian “Flipper” Ross, existed only from 1979 to 1981 but gained a great deal of cultural clout for having a long list of celebrity attendees (Elton John and Cher among them) and a memorable gold dome.
“Our original rink was the stuff of Los Angeles legend. For three glittering years an entire generation of eccentrics, outsiders, punk rockers and disco queens came together to experience a unique kind of freedom on roller skates,” Flippers’ website says.
The New York reincarnation is the work of Ross’ daughter, Liberty Ross, who leaned heavily on ‘70s nostalgia in again building her open-air homage to her dad’s event space at 30 Rock.
“Nothing is like getting on the rink at such an iconic and special place like Rockefeller Center, letting the wind blow through your hair, and feeling truly free. It’s a relief to put down your phone these days and be present, which is how we came up with our mantra, ‘less scroll, more roll,’” she told The Post last year.
“A year ago this place was a ghost town,” she told Vogue in 2022, speaking of the landmark plaza during the pandemic. “It feels amazing to bring this joy to the city.”
Flipper’s will open seven days a week, from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and until midnight Thursday through Saturday.
Children under 18 are not allowed at the venue Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays 9 p.m. on.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online.
A one-hour skate and rental costs $32 for adults and $25 for kids under 12.
