With just days to go to the 2025 Oscars ceremony, A Complete Unknown, aka the Bob Dylan movie, is coming to digital platforms to buy. Another win for Timothée Chalamet’s airtight awards campaign!
Directed by James Mangold (Ford v. Ferrari, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), who also co-wrote the script with Jay Cocks, A Complete Unknown tells the story of the legendary folk singer, Bob Dylan (played by Chalamet), during his early, breakthrough years in New York City in the 1960s. It all culminates in Dylan’s performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, which caused quite a controversy in the folk scene, when Dylan brought out an electric guitar. What a scandal!
The film has earned eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Chalamet), Best Supporting Actor (Edward Norton), and Best Supporting Actress (Monica Barbaro). And right now, Chalamet is the favorite to take home an Academy Award on Sunday.

A Complete Unknown will be released on digital tomorrow, on Tuesday, February 25 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on February 24). You can now buy A Complete Unknown on platforms like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The movie costs $29.99 to buy. A Complete Unknown is not yet available to rent.
A Complete Unknown will also be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on April 1, 2025. Both the digital and the DVD/Blu-Ray release will include a “making of” bonus feature, and an audio commentary from director James Mangold.
But before you buy A Complete Unknown online, you should know that A Complete Unknown is likely coming to Hulu soon.
The A Complete Unknown Hulu release date has not yet been announced. That said, the last several Searchlight releases, including A Real Pain and Nightbitch, both released on Hulu the same week that the movies were released on digital. If A Complete Unknown follows a similar pattern, you might see it on Hulu in the next week or so.
That said, in the case of A Real Pain and Nightbitch, the Hulu release date was announced alongside the digital release, which is not the case for A Complete Unknown. Because of that, and because of the hype around the film, it’s possible Searchlight will hold off on the Hulu release to incentivize more people to buy the film.
