The 9-year-old boy who fatally plunged from a window in his Bronx apartment building has been identified by the NYPD – as officials confirmed his death was a tragic accident.
Little Miguel Ramos fell from the 4th floor of the building at 240 Mount Hope Place around 4:10 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
The child was climbing on the couch inside his apartment – up to the windowsill, which was holding an air conditioning unit – when he opened the window, lost his balance and fell out, police sources said.
He was discovered unconscious and unresponsive on the ground, before being brought to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
No criminality was involved, police said.
A neighbor told reporters Sunday that he performed CPR on the child, who he said didn’t spend much time outside his home.
“He don’t come outside like that,” the neighbor said. “He only come from home to school and stuff like that. He just be upstairs.”
The tragedy came after two kids fell from buildings on the same day last month.
A 2-year-old girl fell from the 5th floor of her Queens apartment building on April 17, landing on grass that softened any impact, ABC 7 reported.
The girl was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Earlier that day, a 3-year-old child was critically injured when she fell from the window of the NYCHA Chelsea Houses in Manhattan, the station reported.
