ABC’s hit series 9-1-1 is back at it again with another deliciously deranged, delightfully unhinged opening emergency. Or in this case, several!
A week ahead of 9-1-1‘s highly-anticipated Season 9 premiere on October 9, a minute-long trailer was released that shows tech billionaire Tripp Hauser (Mark Consuelos) getting eaten by a whale, Athena (Angela Bassett) and Hen (Aisha Hinds) going on a dangerous mission to space, and the 118 navigating a geomagnetic storm that’s wreaking havoc on Los Angeles. NO BIG DEAL!
The trailer picks up with our favorite fictional firefighters coming to Tripp’s rescue after he is quite literally gobbled up by a whale. Eddie (Ryan Guzman) dives into the water to save him from drowning, and Hen performs the CPR that brings him back to consciousness.
Naturally, to thank Hen for her work as an everyday hero, Tripp invites her and a plus one to space! OBVIOUSLY, Hen’s scientist wife Karen (Tracie Thoms) is her first pick. But after Karen refuses the out-of-this-world opportunity because she knows Tripp doesn’t value serious scientists, Hen convinces Athena to tag along.

The two BFFs embark on their journey with three other everyday heroes (one played by June Diane Raphael?! The Morning Show connections live on!) But when Tripp knowingly sends them up into space with a geomagnetic storm brewing, chaos ensues — both in space and on Earth.
Hold up: A billionaire? Bad?!!! You don’t say!

Not gonna lie, things are NOT looking great for Hen and Athena in space, as the trailer ends with Athena literally dangling out of the rocket staring down at Earth. But this is the same woman who landed a plane in Season 8’s opening emergency! So we have to assume she and the rest of the 118 will find a way through the otherworldly chaos that awaits.
What else does the Season 9 premiere have in store from Athena, Hen, Eddie, Buck (Oliver Stark), Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and their loved ones? We’ll have to wait and see.

From the looks of Season 9’s eventful trailer, you won’t want to miss a moment of Season 9’s madness, so tune in to the premiere Thursday, October 9 on ABC for more! Here’s how to watch, premiere time, and more.
