7th Heaven alums Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher, and Mackenzie Rosman did not shy away from their former co-star Stephen Collins‘ sexual abuse crimes on their podcast.
On Monday’s YouTube video of their Catching Up With The Camdens podcast, Mitchell started off by telling listeners they felt it was “important” to acknowledge Collins’ offenses ahead of kicking off their rewatch series, per The Daily Mail.
Gallagher clarified, “All forms of abuse, sexual abuse of any kind, is inexcusable. And victims of abuse need to be shown compassion, and they should be given support.”
Rosman explained that it would be “impossible” to omit Collins — who starred as Reverend Eric Camden on all 11 seasons of the series — from discussion throughout their rewatches, as he “was such a big part of the show and [their] lives.”
“But we want to be clear that we did not have any inappropriate experiences with Stephen,” she shared.
Rosman also highlighted that Collins “will not be joining [them] on this podcast,” nor do they “excuse or condone his behavior.”
“I mean our hope for this podcast is to reconnect with you, our fans,” she noted. “To relive some ’90s nostalgia and to share our fondest memories of 7th Heaven.”
Gallagher said they “know this is difficult and [they] understand that it can be triggering.”
“But we just want to say that we love you guys, and we are so grateful for all the love and support that you, our community, have shown to us,” he said. “So hopefully you guys will stick with us as we continue on this journey.”
In 2014, an investigation into Collins was launched after TMZ obtained a recording taken by his now ex-wife during a January 2012 therapy session, in which he confessed to inappropriate sexual contact with female minors. He later issued a statement to People, admitting to offenses that took place over the course of 1973 to 1994 and noting that “this session was recorded without the therapist’s or my knowledge or consent.”
“Forty years ago, I did something terribly wrong that I deeply regret. I have been working to atone for it ever since,” he wrote, in part, at the time.
