NextImg:6 hurt in early-morning fire at Mount Sinai Hospital: FDNY

Six people were hurt when an early-morning fire erupted in the basement of Mount Sinai Hospital early Friday, officials said.

The electrical blaze broke out around 12:40 a.m. inside the sub-cellar of the 12-story Upper East Side hospital on Madison Avenue near East 101st Street, and escalated to two alarms, according to the FDNY. 

Four civilians and two firefighters were hurt in the fire, according to the FDNY. 

It took about three hours to extinguish the two-alarm fire.

Of those injured, one was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, and the other to Lenox Hill Hospital, the department said. 

The remaining patients were treated at the scene. 

No conditions were available Friday morning.

Hospital officials said 20 patients needed to be moved to areas unaffected by the blaze.

The fire was placed under control at 3:50 a.m., officials said. 

In a statement obtained by WABC, hospital officials said 20 patients needed to be “transported to unaffected areas of The Mount Sinai Hospital.”

“Mount Sinai Health System would like to express our sincerest gratitude to front line staff and FDNY first responders,” officials said.
