As someone who dearly loves Penelope Featherington and deeply loathes the garish gowns she’s been wrongfully dressed in, I cannot wait to see Pen’s glow up. But wait! Penelope isn’t the only character who is getting a Bridgerton Season 3 makeover.  Co-star Luke Newton has grown out his sideburns and — per his own Instagram — gotten himself some guns.

In fact, it seems like the stars themselves are fully aware that their energy has got to shift next season. Before production even began, the duo posted a casual pic of them both looking great with the caption, “Main Character Energy.”

Look, I’m just stoked to see the glow up. I want to see Penelope’s hair softened, her gowns looking more sophisticated, and her confidence soaring. I want Colin to step out of the shadow of his two older brothers and develop the swagger of a romantic hero. I want to see these two charming characters developed more as “main characters.” And yes, I want to see Penelope out of yellow!!!!

Bridgerton Season 3 is going to go boldly where the series hasn’t gone before by pairing a very tall boy with a quite short girl. Yes, I am here for the height difference.

Look, call me a weirdo, but I think it will be exciting to see how Bridgerton choreographs this couple’s more, er, intimate scenes. Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey were both tall, placing Kate and Anthony at eye level — all the better for their banter and power plays. Will the height difference between Coughlan and Newton mean that he has to bend down? Get on his knees? Try different positions than we’ve seen so far??

Let’s get creative, Bridgerton! And let’s celebrate a tall lord and his short queen.

Netflix dropped a cheeky video on social media last summer to announce that Bridgerton Season 3 was now in production. The backstage video ended with Nicola Coughlan flirtatiously asking Luke Newton if he wanted to get into a carriage with her. “Let’s go,” he says as he accepts her offer.

While we know that Bridgerton plays fast and loose with its romance novel source material, the carriage is definitely a reference to a scene from Pen and Colin’s book. Colin and Penelope find themselves having a rather tense conversation in a carriage which leads to…a hot and heavy and R-rated hookup. (In the book, Colin literally proposes marriage to Penelope as soon as they exit said carriage because those Bridgerton boys are all about honor, damnit!)

So, yeah, we don’t know if Penelope and Colin will hook up in a carriage in Season 3, but Netflix certainly wants us to think they might. And at the very least, it’s a fun little wink at their love story in the books…

Bridgerton Season 1 introduced us to Miss Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker), a character who exists in the books, albeit in a very different form. We never meet Marina officially, but her tragic fate is what sparks the main plot of Book 5. The show reimagined Marina not as a distant Bridgerton cousin battling mental illness, but a country girl whose love affair sticks her in a precarious position.

Marina Thompson stays with the Featheringtons for the season because Lord Featherington owes her father money. The idea is she can make a great match in the city. However, her heart already belongs to a soldier fighting in Spain. And she’s pregnant with his baby.

Lady Featherington (Polly Walker) tricks Marina into believing her lover has left her all so she can marrying Marina off to someone wealthy as soon as possible. One suitor who falls hard for Marina? Colin. After he proposes, a jealous Penelope reveals Marina’s secret in Lady Whistledown to squash the engagement and “save” Colin.

So…what’s going to happen if Colin and Marina eventually discover Pen did this? Colin was arguably truly in love with Marina? How will he forgive his new love interest? Can he? Give me the drama!

Last year, ET hung out with Bridgerton stars Nicola Coughlan and Charithra Chandran at the “Bridgerton Experience” and Coughlan spilled some Season 3 tea. Specifically, she dropped a single word: “Mirror.”

If you haven’t read Julia Quinn’s books, you might not understand why Coughlan looked a little scandalized saying that word, and if you have read the books, you might not even remember a scene for Penelope and Colin involving a mirror.

That’s because Penelope and Colin don’t necessarily have a scene in front of a mirror, but Colin says he wants one. He specifically wants to have sex with Penelope in front of a mirror so she can see how beautiful she looks naked. YES! THAT IS WHY COUGHLAN LOOKS SCANDALIZED SAYING “MIRROR!”

GIVE US THE MIRROR SCENE, BRIDGERTON SEASON 3!!!
