NextImg:49ers receiver Jauan Jennings makes trade threat as he wants new contract

Another year, another receiver causing drama in San Francisco.

49ers receiver Jauan Jennings is looking for a bigger contract and wants to be traded if he doesn’t get one, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jennings talked with the team about his demands, but little progress has been made between the two sides.

If a contract is not signed by the end of training camp, Jennings will ask the 49ers to trade him to a team willing to sign him to an extension.

Jennings, 28, is not expected to hold out of training camp, but could add a stress to the 49ers’ offseason that that team is familiar with.

The franchise is only a year removed from another receiver asking for a raise. Brandon Aiyuk did a hold-in last training camp when he participated in workouts to avoid getting fined.

He was rewarded on Aug. 31, 2024 when he signed a four-year contract worth $120 million

However, Aiyuk’s 2024 season was a disaster as he underperformed before suffering a torn ACL against the Chiefs in mid-October.

He is hopeful to return early this season but his absence, coupled with trading Deebo Samuel to the Commanders, makes Jennings that much more important to the 49ers.

Jennings had his best season in the NFL last year, posting 975 receiving yards with six touchdowns.

“You start with Jauan Jennings,” 49ers GM John Lynch said last month. “Jauan had a tremendous season last year. He’s been a tremendous competitor and player for us since he’s been here. I think the fans and the team feed off Jauan’s energy. He plays football the right way, I love his style.”

Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson are behind Jennings on the depth chart.

The 49ers are coming off an injury-riddled 6-11 season that saw them miss the playoffs a season after losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
