New Twitter owner Elon Musk took away a large majority of “legacy” verified users’ blue checkmarks on Thursday if they did not subscribe to Twitter Blue – and at least one NFL player is not happy.

49ers long snapper Taybor Pepper lashed out at Musk after he lost his verification, throwing vulgar insults in the direction of the SpaceX founder in the process.

“That little b–ch @elonmusk finally did it, he took away my check mark. I’m never gonna pay for this s–t platform btw. #BelugaWhaleLookinAss,” Pepper’s tweet read.

Musk recently unveiled a plan to eliminate verification for celebrities, journalists and athletes and offer the blue checkmark to those who pay $8 a month for Twitter Blue – a premium service for the social media app that also allows users to edit tweets, post longer content and appear more frequently in search, in addition to having the blue check next to their username.

Most of those who were previously verified lost their checkmarks on Thursday, and unsurprisingly, many journalists and celebrities were upset.

Pepper, a Michigan State graduate who has also spent time with the Packers, Ravens, Giants and Dolphins, had perhaps the harshest insult for Musk.

Elsehwere in the sports world, many on the internet were surprised when Lakers star LeBron James retained his checkmark – despite saying definitively that he would not pay the subscription fee for Twitter blue.

“Welp guess my blue [check] will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5,” James tweeted in March.

However, James still had his blue check on Thursday, and into Friday – despite not paying for the service, USA Today reported.

Musk replied on Thursday that he is still paying for a select few celebrities’ checkmarks, and seemed to imply that James is one of those, along with William Shatner and Stephen King – so that may be the explanation.
