San Francisco will host its third Super Bowl in 2026, as the Bay Area was approved to host the event on Monday by NFL owners at the Spring League Meeting.

It will mark the second Super Bowl for Levi’s Stadium, located in Santa Clara, since opening in 2014.

In 2016, it was the first Super Bowl set in the Bay Area in over 30 years, Super Bowl 50, when the Broncos toughed out the Panthers 24-10 to mark Peyton Manning’s final game before he retired in March of that year.

“The Bay Area was an incredible host for Super Bowl 50, and we are thrilled to bring the Super Bowl back,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement on Monday. “We look forward to working with the 49ers and the Bay Area Host Committee to create an impactful Super Bowl LX in 2026 that showcases all the great things the region has to offer.”

Prior to 2016, the 49ers won Super Bowl 19 in 1985 over the Dolphins at Stanford Stadium, taking home the franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy in four seasons.

San Francisco’s confirmed bid continues the recent trend of West Coast teams hosting the Super Bowl with Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium and Glendale, Arizona at State Farm Stadium hosting the past two title games.

Before 2026, Las Vegas will host Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium and New Orleans is set to have Super Bowl 59 at Caesars Superdome.

Outside of the stadium, events making up the Super Bowl week are expected to occur across the Bay Area, closer to the waterfront according to president of the San Francisco 49ers Al Guido.

“We are honored to host the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium once again, and to be stewards of one of the biggest sporting events in the world,” said Guido. “Since hosting Super Bowl 50 in 2016, Levi’s Stadium has cemented its reputation as a world-class venue. I’m confident Super Bowl LX will be a terrific event that benefits the entire community.”

Levi Stadium also will be a part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the summer, among several other venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
