Lamar Jackson’s free agency is heating up, and Kyle Shanahan could be looking for a new signal caller as the 2023 NFL Draft approaches.
“I was told this yesterday. The Niners have monitored everything, including Lamar Jackson,” Dan Patrick said on his show.

“They’ve explored that or at least looked at it. They kicked the tires on it. And, of course, you should do that,” he said.
Jackson’s turbulent free agency has resulted in a trade demand as he seeks more guaranteed money than the $230 million Deshaun Watson got in 2022.
Shanahan’s offense would seem like a natural fit for Jackson as his offense has shown a willingness to run the pistol formation.
The Ravens ran the pistol on first down on 49 percent of plays, the most in the NFL, according to nfelo.

San Francisco also used that formation the seventh-most in the league on first down while running the ball 13 times with Trey Lance in Week 1 before he tore his ACL and was lost for the season the following week.
Lance is rumored to potentially be traded as the team looks to find its franchise quarterback.
Of course, Jackson won’t be a cheap option.

Jackson, the 2019 MVP, reportedly turned down more guaranteed money than the Eagles gave 2023 MVP runner-up Jalen Hurts — $255 million over five years — during this offseason.
It’s not just money, either.

He was given a non-exclusive franchise tag by the Ravens, meaning any team that signs him would forfeit two first-round draft choices to Baltimore if it chooses not to match the contract offer.
Many have speculated that no serious negotiations would unfold until after the 2023 NFL Draft, so teams can withhold their draft choices this season.
What we know is Jackson being added to a loaded offense, including Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle, would be a spectacle to watch on the football field this fall.
