A tweet by an apparent parody account made its way all the way to 49ers general manager John Lynch.
On Tuesday, shortly after the NFL trade deadline passed, an X account purporting to be Giants insider Wesley Steinberg tweeted about a fictitious Adoree’ Jackson swap that fell through.
“The #Giants had a trade agreed with the #49ers for Adoree Jackson but failed to report it to the league in time,” the account tweeted.
In his weekly radio spot with “Murph & Mac” on KNBR in San Francisco, Lynch was asked about the “report” and denied its veracity.
“That is not true at all…That was not real,” Lynch answered.
Upon a quick perusal, the Steinberg account is filled with jokes that aren’t particularly funny, such as, “#Giants team morale is currently at an all time low after Tyrod Taylor’s injury and the news of Daniel Jones being cleared.”
Jackson, who is a looming free agent, was asked about the idea of getting traded after Friday’s practice last week.
“I feel good. I’m not even worried about it. If something [does] happen, at the end of the day, it’s out of my control. I just control what I can control. That’s my attitude when I come into work,” Jackson said.
“So, for me, obviously, I want to be here. … Made a lot of memories with these guys. A great bond. So, [I] know we [are] always going to be in contact, but I want to be here.”
He said he had not brought up the topic with head coach Brian Daboll or GM Joe Schoen.
“Oh, I don’t talk to nobody about that,” he said. “I don’t even want to be talking about that. If it comes to me, it comes to me. It’s like anything in life. When it gets presented to me, it gets presented to me.”
