49ers general manager John Lynch expects to see Ricky Pearsall on the field in 2024 after the rookie wide receiver was shot in the chest in San Francisco on Saturday.
“Oh yeah. He’s doing remarkably well,” Lynch when asked on Tuesday if Pearsall, 23, could play for the 49ers this season. “It’s kinda uncharted territory. It’s not every day you deal with something like this.”
Lynch said it was “nothing short of miraculous” that Pearsall, who was released from the hospital on Sunday, was doing as well as he was after the incident.
“Multiple people down there said this is about as good as outcome as you could have in this situation,” Lynch said. “Ricky takes a lot of pride in being available and continues to point out, ‘I promise you, I’m not injury prone.’ This is not being injury prone … He’s going to be a fantastic player … But first and foremost, we’re going to make sure that he’s all good and ready to go.”
Pearsall was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Monday, meaning he will miss the first four games of San Francisco’s season, but that didn’t stop him from getting back in the gym.
He was reportedly in the 49ers’ weight room on Monday, two days after being shot in downtown San Francisco during an alleged attempted robbery.
Pearsall, the 49ers’ first-round pick in April’s NFL draft, will be eligible to return for the team’s fifth game against the Cardinals on Oct. 6.
“He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the team said in a statement Sunday.
