NextImg:$4.5 million bet as Kentucky sports betting launches mobile

Kentucky sports betting went live on Thursday, and if retail wagering is any indicator, the Wildcats fans love football.

There was $4.5 million bet in two weeks since retail sports betting opened on Sept. 7, according to WKRC news.

“Football is king right now — college and pro. We’ve seen a really strong amount of wagering at Turfway Park,” Gary Pecorello, senior director of operations at Turfway sportsbook, told WKRC.

Far from a surprise, sports betting thrives on football, especially considering the amount of money wagered on it last season.

A staggering 73.5 million Americans intend on betting on the 2023 NFL season, which is roughly 19 percent of American adults, according to the American Gaming Association.

Most of them are expected to bet on a mobile device with sportsbooks such as FanDuel, Caesars, and BetMGM.

As of Thursday, here are a list of a few operators that have launched in Kentucky.

Kentucky’s numbers undoubtedly will pale in comparison to New York, though, as $16 billion was bet by New Yorkers in 2022.

Nevertheless, Kentucky is well-known for its horse racing operations, which are up there with the largest in the country.

All of these sports bets are now legal in the Bluegrass State.
