NextImg:36 celebrity-loved women’s cashmere sweaters for luxurious warmth

Sweater weather is almost here.

And when it comes to investing in fresh fall style staples, nothing says (and feels like) luxury more than cozy cashmere.

Fittingly, celebrities have a soft spot for the stuff, whether in the form of classic cable-knit crewnecks or playful patterned pullovers.

While these buttery soft sweaters have been long been linked to high-end brands and hefty price tags, however, adding one to your closet needn’t break the bank.

Below, we’ve broken down the top 12 cashmere labels celebrities can’t get enough of — from (relatively) budget-friendly buys to splurge-worthy investment pieces.

Classic cashmere never goes out of style. Just ask Taylor Swift, who owns knitwear from Reformation — as do Emily Ratajkowski, Selena Gomez, Carrie Underwood and many more major names. Like the sustainable label’s dresses, jeans, tops and accessories, its sweaters are a longtime superstar closet staple.

Prepping your fall wardrobe with preppy pieces? While J.Crew’s extensive cashmere options cost far less than most on this list, they’re equally A-list-approved. Zoe Saldana and Reese Witherspoon both own the label’s wear-with-anything pullovers, while Florence Pugh modeled the brand’s cashmere tank top for a 2022 campaign.

From model to mogul. While Gigi Hadid’s donned many a cashmere sweater over the years, she took her love for the textile to the next level when she launched her luxury knitwear label, Guest in Residence, in 2022. Fellow catwalker Elsa Hosk owns her designs, as do Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner.

Celebrities’ affinity for Lingua Franca quite literally speaks for itself. In the years since its 2016 launch, the brand’s signature statement-embroidered sweaters have landed on Oprah’s “Favorite Things” list — and in the closets of some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep both own the brand’s “Time’s Up” sweater, while Connie Britton even wore one of its knits to the Golden Globes.

“Our brand was built on starting conversations. It wasn’t built on fashion,” founder Rachelle Hruska MacPherson told WWD in 2021. “That’s why we started with words. ‘Lingua franca’ literally means a common language.”

Everlane’s timeless basics are anything but basic; instead of traditional cashmere, the label claims its sweaters create “over 90% less raw material carbon emissions,” as they’re made using recycled fibers. The direct-to-consumer brand offers plenty of under-$300 options, popular among the likes of Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez and Lucy Hale.

Stars don’t save cashmere just for cardigans. After all, who could forget when Katie Holmes went viral for wearing Khaite’s $520 cashmere bra on the streets of NYC in 2019? The New York-based luxury label’s maintained the buzz since, and Elsa Hosk, Ashley Graham, Selena Gomez and more can’t get enough of its fashions — which designer Cate Holstein has described as “cherished objects,” not “basics.”

If splurging doesn’t scare you, you won’t find more luxurious cashmere sweaters than those from this high-end brand. When Cucinelli founded the label, he sought to “be a real expert, to have a specialty or niche,” as he told Business of Fashion. That niche took the form of high-quality knitwear, ranging from solid-colored crewnecks to gem-embellished sweaters. (Just call it knit one, pearl two.)

While Jennifer Lopez owns a slew of Brunello Cucinelli sweaters, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba and Sofia Richie are also fans of its designs.

How do you score brand collaborations with household names in fashion and pop culture alike? Standout sweater styles with eye-catching colors. Since launching in 2017, The Elder Statesman hasn’t just become a favorite of stars like Jennifer Garner, Zendaya and Selena Gomez; it’s also teamed up with Drake on a cashmere collection (which included $415 socks) and with Ugg on a holiday collection.
