A man was pummeled on the Upper East Side by an unhinged individual spewing “anti-sexual orientation” statements, police said.
The incident, which the NYPD deemed a hate crime, occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Monday as the 21-year-old victim was walking in front of 1565 First Ave., near 81st Street, cops said.
The suspect — a bald man with a dark complexion, medium build, approximately 25 to 40 years old — suddenly pounced on the victim, punching him in the head multiple times while spewing his venom, the NYPD said.
The attacker then ran off, leaving the victim with injuries to the left side of his face, a black eye and a nasal bone fracture, police said.
The battered man went by private means to Lenox Hill Hospital.
The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.
Police on Saturday released a surveillance photo of the wanted man.
