NextImg:2026 college football national championship odds: Where Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame stand

Ohio State looked mostly dominant through its College Football Playoff championship run, but the Buckeyes are not favored to repeat next year.

Texas is the favorite to win the 2026 college football national championship, coming in at +450 odds at ESPN BET.

The Buckeyes are tied for second-best odds (+600) with Georgia.

Texas is losing quarterback Quinn Ewers, although the odds would suggest that they are actually getting an upgrade with wunderkind quarterback Arch Manning set to start this upcoming season.

Star receivers Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden are also set to head to the NFL, but thanks to the transfer portal and program stature, Steve Sarkisian’s bunch is unlikely to find problems filling those gaps.

Meanwhile, after Ohio State’s surge to the national championship, they’ll lose plenty of prized talent, although star receiver Jeremiah Smith will return to the Buckeyes.

Quarterback Will Howard will be one and done in Columbus, with former top prospect Julian Sayin possibly in line to start.

Further down the list is Penn State (+750), tied for the fourth-highest odds on the market, thanks in part to Drew Allar’s commitment to remaining a Nittany Lion.

Some had speculation whether Allar could enter the draft, but an ugly showing in the CFP semifinal vs. Notre Dame halted the talk of him being a potential top pick in the 2025 class.

The SEC’s deteriorating dominance has Georgia (+600), Alabama (13/1), Tennessee (16/1), and LSU (18/1) all in the mix but far from looking like the world beaters we have seen in years past.
