After a big win Monday night, Jalen Hurts is the new NFL MVP favorite.
The Eagles quarterback, now +250 to win the award, overtook Patrick Mahomes after Philadelphia took down the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs to move to an NFL-best 9-1 on the season.
Hurts has been top-five in the MVP race virtually all season, but it’s the first time he’s been alone at the top of the odds board.
He and Mahomes were tied at +300 (BetMGM) for the best odds heading into “Monday Night Football.”
Hurts helped the Eagles overcome a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Kansas City 21-17 despite an underwhelming passing game.
The Alabama product threw for just 150 yards on 14 of 22 passing with an interception, although he ran for two of Philadelphia’s three touchdowns.
With perhaps their toughest game of the way, the Eagles are now in the driver’s seat to finish with the best record in the NFL and secure a first-round playoff bye.
Hurts is trailed by Lamar Jackson, who is sitting at +400.
Jackson and the Ravens are 8-3, the best record in the AFC.
Mahomes fell to +450, the third-best odds on the board.
Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa (+500) is the only other player with odds better than 16/1.
Hurts nearly won the NFL MVP award during his breakout season last year, finishing second to Mahomes in the AP voting.
Hurts has accounted for 24 touchdowns — 15 through the air and nine on the ground — thus far.
He’s been a bit more interception-prone this season, but he’s upped both his completion percentage (68.5) and passing yards per game (249.7) since last season.
