It sounds like 1923 fans are growing weary of one character’s harrowing journey to find her husband.
Fans took to social media to shared their shocked reactions to the violent fate Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) suffered on a train ride to Montana on her journey to reuniting with her husband, Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar).
While working in the dining car to earn her meals on the trip, Alexandra gets sexually assaulted by a customer after spilling coffee on him. At first, Alexandra is frozen with fear. “Your tears are saying no but your body is saying something else,” he tells her. But she eventually snaps out of it and mercilessly beats him with the coffee pot, though it’s not long before she gets detained in the train jail.
Fans were disappointed and saddened to see the beloved character get assaulted. “Look, I understand they’re making a statement about the times but how many more times do we have to watch Alexandra get sexually assaulted or beat on? It’s excessive at this point,” one viewer wrote.
Others felt the assault was “too much,” while some viewers were worried it could go even further.

“If they kill off Alex in the series 1923, I’ll never watch another episode of one of Taylor Sheridan’s series again,” one fan wrote.
“1923 and Alexandra Dutton has me reeling and gutted. Love her so much,” another viewer said.
Fortunately for Alexandra, and for her 1923 fans, two witnesses eventually came forward and told police that man had assaulted her, saving her from being detained in Chicago. They then offered to take her to Winnetka and get her out of Chicago because it’s unsafe. But what she doesn’t know is her husband Spencer is currently in Chicago and on his way back to Montana. Will they ever be able to reunite?
Schlaepfer said in a recent interview that Season 2 “was one of the most challenging things I’ve done as an actor.”
“It was really challenging because it wasn’t the kind of light and easy love story where you find Alex and Spencer at the beginning,” she said, adding that Alexandra’s journey is “not as romantic” as she searches for her husband.
“She’s a woman alone in the 1920s and she encounters a lot of scary things and she’s awakened to all of the dangers of the world. She has to really fight and find a new level of determination and grit in her to get to where she wants to go,” she said of her character.
New episodes of 1923 air on Sundays on Peacock.
