Easter

After church, Easter egg hunts, and plenty of Peeps, what is there left to do on Easter? Why, watch Easter movies on Netflix, of course!

Easter movies aren’t quite as ubiquitous as Christmas movies, but there are still plenty of options for Netflix users looking to stream something Easter-related this Sunday. Sadly, 2025 marks another year that the undisputed best Easter movie of all time, Jesus Christ Superstar, is not streaming on Netflix. (That said, you can stream the iconic 1973 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd’s rock opera on Amazon, free with a subscription.) Maybe someday!

That said, there are a few options for Easter movies to watch on Netflix in 2025. I’m just warning you right now: These movies will not, I repeat, not, be anywhere near as good as Jesus Christ Superstar. In fact, a lot of these movies are only tangentially related to Easter. Look, if you refuse to pick JCS as your Easter movie watch, there’s only so much I can do. That’s the buzz, and I’m telling you what’s a-happening!

Read on for a list of 11 Easter movies streaming on Netflix in 2025.

Nothing says Easter like bunny rabbits, and Peter Rabbit is one of the most famous fictional bunny rabbits of all time. This kid-friendly comedy stars James Cordon as the voice of this wide-eyed, mischievous CGI rabbit, and Domhnall Gleeson as Mr. McGregor’s great nephew, who inherits his uncle’s old home and discovers a family of trouble-making rabbits in the yard. Also starring Rose Byrne, Sam Neill, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Daisy Ridley, Elizabeth Debicki, and Margot Robbie, it’s fun for the whole family.

Yes, Mel Gibson was dropped by his talent agency in 2010 after audio leaked of him screaming obscenities at his then-girlfriend, who also accused him of domestic violence. Yes, he’s made multiple, documented anti-Semitic, racist, and homophobic comments. But Gibson’s 2004 epic The Passion of the Christ will forever be a Good Friday and Easter classic. Jim Caviezel stars as Jesus of Nazareth, in this brutal, violent recreation of the final twelve hours before the crucifixion. This movie is rated R for a reason, and definitely not for kids.

If the two animal mascots of Easter are chicks and rabbits, then the main character in Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness is the ultimate Easter mascot. Based on the graphic novel Chickenhare by Chris Grine, this animated film for children follows the adventures of the one-of-a-kind “Chickenhare,” a creature who is half chicken, half hare. It’s an Indiana Jones-esque adventure that kids will love.

  4. THE BOOK OF CLARENCE, LaKeith Stanfield

If you’re looking for a more light-hearted, whimsical interpretation of the story of Jesus, you might try streaming this wacky indie comedy from director Jeymes Samuel. Lakeith Stanfield stars as a guy named Clarence living in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus Christ, looking to cash in on the rise of Christianity. You can’t knock the hustle! It’s not exactly faithful to the holy texts, but it is a lot of fun, and there is some Easter-appropriate resurrection that happens. This one is probably not for kids, though.

  5. MIGRATION STREAMING MOVIE REVIEW

It wouldn’t be Easter without cartoon chicks and ducklings, and you’ll get plenty of animated baby birds in Migration, the 2023 Illumination movie about a family of mallards who travel from New England to Jamaica. The A-list voice cast includes Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Keegan-Michael Key, Awkwafina, and Danny DeVito. This movie is the perfect watch for both kids, and any parent who loves The White Lotus, because the screenplay was written by series creator Mike White.

  6. Mary. Noa Cohen as Mary in Mary

Yes, Mary on Netflix is more of a Christmas movie, since it’s about the virgin mother Mary and the lead-up to Jesus’s birth. But it still features all the major players in the Easter story, including Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins as King Herod. Directed by D.J. Caruso, with a screenplay written by Timothy Michael Hayes, Mary tells the story of the mother of Jesus Christ, from her own blessed conception to the miraculous birth of Baby Jesus. Israeli actress Noa Cohen stars as Mary, a young Jewish girl who is chosen by God to be “the vessel of the Messiah.” Israeli actor Ido Tako plays her loving husband, Joseph. Hopkins plays the tyrannical King Herod, who is determined to stop the coming of this rumored son of God. It’s best for teens and older.

  7. OVER THE MOON, from left: Croak, Bungee (voice: Edie Ichioka), 2020.

While not explicitly related to the Easter holiday, Over the Moon is an animated Netflix original film for children that features an adorable bunny sidekick. You can never get enough bunnies on Easter, right? It’s also a musical, about a girl named Fei Fei who builds a rocket to the moon in search of the Chinese moon goddess Chang’e. Along for the ride on Fei Fei’s adventure is her pet rabbit Bungee, who is, in my opinion, adorable.

  8. Netflix

Easter is a holiday of faith, but faith isn’t always easy. This 2018 Netflix original captures that complicated struggle. Oscar-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as a popular preacher who is ostracized and excommunicated from his church for preaching that there is no Hell. The film premiered at Sundance and was well-liked by critics, though it never made a big splash. While not explicitly about Easter, it’s an interesting film about faith, Christianity, and church-going. This one is for adults!

  9. Photo: Open Road Films

If your kids love Migration, good news: There’s another, very similar animated film on Netflix that came out five years earlier. This co-production between China and the U.S. stars the voice of Jim Gaffigan as a free-spirited goose, Peng, who gets left behind by his migrating flock. Peng teams up with two Mandarin ducklings, Chi (voiced by Zendaya) and Chao (voiced by Lance Lim), who have also lost their flock. It’s an adorable watch for the whole family that’s perfect for this springtime holiday.

  10. Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce in The Two Popes

If you’re in the mood for a critically acclaimed art film this Easter, you might try this quiet but compelling movie starring Anthony Hopkins as former Pope Benedict XVI, having a conversation the soon-to-be Pope Francis (played Jonathan Pryce).  From director Fernando Meirelles and writer Anthony McCarten—who speculated what might have been said when Pope Benedict XVI made the historic, unprecedented decision to retire—it is a surprisingly compelling conversation. But this one isn’t for kids— it’s an Easter movie for the adults in the room.

  11. THE FORGE, from left: Cameron Arnett, Aspen Kennedy, 2024

Directed by Alex Kendrick, with a screenplay by Alex Kendrick and his brother Stephen Kendrick, this Christian drama stars Aspen Kennedy as a teenager who turns his life around when he discovers religion. Again, though not explicitly connected to Easter, The Forge is a popular faith-based movie that sung the praises of Jesus and Christianity. Isn’t that what Easter’s really about? This is one maybe not for young kids, but good for young tweens, teens, and older.
