NextImg:The Corner: The DNC Is Now on a Hogg Hunt

The party is considering annulling the election that gave David Hogg the vice-chairmanship and doing it over again — for the sake of diversity.

Some news from the world of pest control. Anyone who has spent enough time on the internet over the past half decade understands the threat posed by 30 to 50 crazed wild pigs ganging up on you at once, and if you have no idea what I’m referring to when I say this, then you my friend spend far too much time living a normal life. Back then online progressives — with their soft hands and hapless urban folkways — could not comprehend the dangers such wildlife pose to an unarmed human. The Democratic National Committee knows better now, however, as they discover themselves incapable of taking down even a single feral Hogg successfully.

That’s right folks, it’s time for a brief update on the adventures of David Hogg — former youth anti-gun activist, failed pillow manufacturer, and now vice-chair of the DNC. I’ve been tracking Hogg’s comical bildungsroman since the day he lobbied his way into winning the DNC’s internal election for the slot based on his promise to bring the (currently scattered) “Youth Vote” back to the Democratic fold — so please read those pieces for all the details.

What you need to know now is that, instead of being the patsy the DNC expected him to be, Hogg is currently using his official position to fundraise for his independent super PAC dedicated to unseating Democratic incumbents in their primaries — to replace them with people who look and think a lot more like, well, David Hogg. Not only is the wolf in the Democratic fold, he seems to have gotten himself elected assistant shepherd.

National Democrats are — rather reasonably — displeased with this, but then again these are the same people who voted for Hogg back in February. What to do? Dave Weigel of Semafor has an answer that will delight you: The DNC is considering annulling the election and doing it over again — for the sake of diversity:

The DNC’s credentials committee will meet virtually on May 12 to consider the challenge from Kalyn Free, a Native American attorney and party activist who lost a vice chair spot to Hogg at the party’s Feb. 1 meeting.

In her complaint, shared with Semafor by a Democratic source, Free argued that she lost a “fatally flawed election that violated the DNC Charter and discriminated against three women of color candidates,” and asks for “two new vice chair elections.” In February, after several rounds of voting, the race came down to five candidates — Kenyatta, Hogg, Free, and two other women. Kenyatta and Hogg claimed the open spots.

“By aggregating votes across ballots and failing to distinguish between gender categories in a meaningful way, the DNC’s process violated its own Charter and Bylaws, undermining both fairness and gender diversity,” argued Free, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation.

I have little to add to this delightfully self-explanatory mess, except that I am currently offering a sincere prayer to my creator that it plays out exactly the way Weigel describes: David Hogg getting poleaxed from his DNC position for nominal reasons of ethnic and gender representation. Could any story better epitomize the current state of the Democratic Party — currently sporting a 25/75 approval rating even while Trump makes chaos out of the economy — than their inability to even revolt against themselves successfully? Than the use of “woke representation” to suppress the only truly woke radical within their official ranks? I know myself to be a sinner, after all, and can barely comprehend what it is I could have possibly done to merit the most hilarious possible ending to an already fantastic story. You can be sure I will update you in a few weeks.
