Rich Lowry launched our summer webathon earlier this week, emphasizing our long history of fighting against statism and in defense of the market principles on which this country was founded. A little bit more than halfway through the one-week fundraiser, hundreds of amazing readers have contributed a little bit more than $25,000. So we are now announcing a target of $50,000, which we are hoping to get to by the time we wrap things up at the end of Monday.

Unlike NPR and PBS, National Review never could count on government funding. Because we won’t shy away from staking out controversial views when we know they’re right, and won’t sacrifice quality or principles for the sake of clicks, we cannot finance all of our operations through advertising. Though we are grateful to each and every one of our subscribers, that does not get us all the way toward funding our journalism. That’s why we periodically call on generous donors to help fill the gap.

When you work at National Review, you learn there are a lot of quirks about this place. One of them is that our fiscal year ends in July, which is why we are making one last push to try to go into next year on a strong footing.
