The Russian military targeted several Ukrainian regions using 267 drones overnight on Saturday, the highest number of drones ever known to have been used in a single Russian attack, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ignat said on Sunday.

The Russian army also launched three Iskander ballistic missiles at Ukraine from occupied Crimea, the Ukrainian Air Force said in its briefing, adding that 138 Russian drones had been intercepted, 119 failed to reach their target but did not cause any damage, while four others had failed to reach Ukrainian airspace.

Several central and southern Ukrainian regions were targeted in the attack, the Air Force said, with the Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, Poltava, Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia reporting damage following the attack.

One person was killed and five more were injured in a drone strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, regional authorities reported, while three people were reportedly injured in and around the city of Odesa.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted footage of multiple Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities over the past week on his Telegram channel, accusing Russia of attacking Ukraine with a total of 1,150 drones, over 1,400 guided bombs and 35 missiles of various types this week alone.

Referring to the fissures that have opened up in the past week between Kyiv and Washington, Zelensky stressed the importance of allied “unity” to secure a “lasting and just peace” in Ukraine, adding that Ukraine needed the “strength of the whole of Europe, the strength of America, the strength of everyone who wants a lasting peace”.
