Adam Kadyrov, the 16-year-old son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, has been appointed supervisor of the President Vladimir Putin Russian Special Forces University.

Kadyrov announced the appointment on his Telegram channel Sunday, adding that his son was “thoroughly familiar” with the activities of the university. “I think he will do an excellent job,” Kadyrov stressed.

The private university in the Chechen city of Gudermes is devoted to training special forces and is run by Kadyrov’s associate Baybetar Vaykhanov.

Adam Kadyrov was previously promoted to the position of his father’s chief bodyguard and given an honorary post as observer in a Russian battalion in November.

The latest accolade complements Adam Kadyrov’s title as Hero of Chechnya, a decoration awarded to him by his father in September after he beat a defenceless 19-year-old prisoner who had allegedly burnt a copy of the Quran.

Ramzan Kadyrov posted video footage of the assault on Telegram, applauding his son’s “mature ideals of honour, dignity and defending his faith”.
